June 10 Updates
Thank You!
Thank you to the PAC for the wonderful staff appreciation lunch! It was a wonderful treat for all staff! This has been a challenging year and we can not thank the Howay families enough for your support and kindness as we navigated this unusual year.
We would also like to thank the PAC for supporting field trips! Our intermediate classes were fortunate to participate in a virtual field trip to the Museum of Vancouver, with a theme connected to immigration, and our primary classes had great fun in a virtual escape room, with a theme connected to water and oceans. Both virtual tours had interactive and engaging activities to test our student’s problem solving skills!
Runathon
Runathon is scheduled for Friday, June 11th (weather permitting- alternate date is Monday, June 14th)
This is a PAC fundraiser event. Please use the form provided by the PAC to support this fundraiser. All collections need to be sent to the school by June 16th. Click here for information and pledge form.
Fun Day
Students and staff have been preparing for a few weeks now and hopefully we can get outside for this day! Fun Day is scheduled for Wednesday, June 16th (weather permitting – alternate date is June 23rd). Please make sure to send students to school with hats and apply sunscreen in the morning before school as most of the day will be outside. If parents are sending sunscreen to school please send only the lotion type as the spray is difficult to manage for younger students.
HUB Cycling (Grade 3-5 students)
We are excited this great program is at Howay this year! Grade 3-5 students will participate in 2 days of bike safety. (June 17th in-class training and lessons, June 18th on-bike training and lessons). A notice will be sent home to Grade 3-5 students with more information and what is needed for the June 18th on-bike day.
National Indigenous Peoples Day
June 21st in National Indigenous Peoples Day. A day to recognize and celebrate the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Metis Indigenous peoples of Canada. Howay staff will be recognizing and celebrating this day with students throughout the week of June 21st.
Grade 5 Leaving Event
The Grade 5s will be celebrating and saying their farewells on Monday, June 28th. This will be an in school event for students and staff to wish our Grade 5s all the best as they transition to Grade 6. Unfortunately, we will not be able to invite families to this event as we will continue with our current protocols and restrictions.
