December updates

Welcome

We are very pleased to welcome our newest staff member to FW. Howay – Ms. Erica Bloom.

Ms. Bloom will take on the role of classroom teacher in Division 4.

We are happy to announce that Ms. Valentina Lalic will continue to be a Howay staff member in the role of Learning Support Teacher as well as one of our prep teachers.

Farewell

We are saying our farewell to Ms. Nancy Shamley. We are so thankful for all your wonderful support over the first term. Ms. Shamley was supporting our students as one of our Learning Support Teachers.

School Learning Plan

Our goal for this year is focused on outdoor learning. Please go to our school website to see our full learning plan and the details on some of our initiatives and objectives for the year.

What we hope to achieve …

Students, staff and parents will feel more connected to our outdoor spaces and to each other and demonstrate a sense of curiosity and wonder for our community park spaces and nature.

Place-based Learning

By exploring, restoring, and “re-storying” connections to nature and neighbourhoods, students become reintegrated into their communities and revitalized, “they become part of the community rather than a passive observer of it” – Sobel, David (2004) Place-based Education Connecting Classrooms and Communities. The Orion Society. In Get Outdoors, p. 23

If you have a child that will be attending Kindergarten in the 2023/2024 school year, please view the registration process on the school district website.
