February 9th Updates
Catchment Review
The Board of Education of School District No. 40 (New Westminster) has approved the F.W. Howay and Richard McBride catchment adjustment as outlined in Scenario 1 (McBride West to Howay) effective March 12, 2021. The necessary updates to the catchment maps will occur once the registration window closes on March 12, 2021.
Updated COVID Protocols and Guidelines
Our district and school sites are committed to making sure that we are continuing to follow and adjust our protocols. The district will be enhancing our current plan and making additions and adjustments to follow the guidelines and recommendations set out by the Ministry of Education and the Provincial Health Officer. It will be updated in the next week for staff and families of our school community. Specifically, there has been updates for enhanced mask guidelines, additional guidelines for music class and PE and increased protocols for staff-only spaces. For now, I have attached the letter from Superintendent Karim Hachlaf, dated Feb. 4, with a few more details regarding these key updates. (link to letter)
Please remember to keep a safe distance from other parents when dropping off and picking up your children. We are fortunate to have a wonderful space at Howay for parents to follow our physical distancing protocols as we have multiple enter and exit zones but it is still important to keep your distance from others and wear masks where distancing is not possible.
Please also continue to make sure to complete the Daily Health Check every morning with your children. Please keep students at home if they have symptoms on the Daily Health Check.
