November Updates

Virtual Remembrance Day Assembly

This year we had a live event through MSTeams where students in all divisions could watch and participate in this important assembly. Thank you to all of our Division 1 and 2 students for working so hard on your writing activities and taking so much interest in putting this very important assembly together.

The Howay Morning Show

Division 1 and 2 have been using MSTeams to share our weekly announcements through our new program, “The Howay Morning Show”, which will take place every Wednesday. All students in the school have an opportunity to view the program in their classrooms through MSTeams. It has been a great way for our oldest students to continue with the leadership activities and develop their public speaking skills. Our Grade 5 students have been very keen on learning about the “live events” platform and producing our new program.

Nut Aware

Howay is a nut aware school. Please be advised that we have a few students and staff among us with severe allergies to peanuts and tree nuts. We ask that you please provide your child with peanut and nut-free alternatives for their snacks and lunches to help keep their classmates safe.

The Howay PAC

The PAC (Parent Advisory Council) have been very busy supporting our school initiatives and raising money for our classrooms! This month they had the Neufeld Farms fundraiser, Poinsettia (Growing Smiles) fundraiser and the Created by Children Art fundraiser. Thank you to our PAC for all of your hard work!

Families who are still interested in returning the art work for the Created By Kids fundraiser please return the art work form to the classroom no later than November 25th.

If you would like to join the PAC virtual meetings please send an email to howaypacsecretary@gmail.com

Library

Students have been taking books out of the library. Please remember to return books on your class return date. Due to our cleaning and sanitizing protocols for library, students are to take books out for 3 days only. Thank you for your cooperation and support with returning books in a timely manner.

Dressing for West Coast Weather

It will be very rare that we have an inside day at Howay. Please make sure that students are prepared for all types of weather – rain, snow, cold rain, heavy rain, drizzles and wind! We will be outside in all types of weather!! Please pack boots, gloves, rain/winter jackets and umbrellas to help your child stay warm during the fall and winter months. It is also important that your child has a change of clothes for these rainy days as most students at some point need to change their socks and pants.
