June updates

Thank you!

The Howay community is so thankful to the Bromley family for donating our beautiful new bench in our primary playground. It is a wonderful addition to our playground and school. If you have not had a chance to visit and enjoy the bench, please visit our playground. We would also like to thank the Bromley family for the beautiful books that have been donated to our school library. We had a wonderful visit with Kathy and Rob Bromley, on June 1st.  The students enjoyed meeting Shannon’s parents and reading, “A Good Thing Happened Today” by Michelle Figueroa.

Shannon Bromley was a former Howay student and volunteered her time for many years in our school. Shannon was an inspiration to those around her and her bright smile made all the staff and students feel excited to learn and play. Our beautiful new bench is a reminder for all of us to “Have fun every day!”.

School Garden

If you have not checked out some of our amazing spinach and kale in our school garden, please come by and have a look! We have some beautiful vegetables and fruit growing – strawberries, radishes, carrots, kale, spinach, herbs and much more! Division 4 has harvested kale and spinach and have made some tasty salads!

Fun Day – June 8th

Next week we will have our annual Fun Day! Throughout the day students will have the opportunity to participate in creative play stations throughout the school. There will be lots of choice to explore, play and engage in movement and hands on activities. We will also have a few races on our field between 11:00 and 12:00!

We are hopeful to have lots of outside time, so please make sure to dress for lots of movement and wear sunscreen. We also encourage students to wear hats and pack your water bottle! It will be a very active day so hydration will be very important!

Stream of Dreams – Fish on Fences

We are excited to be participating in “The Stream of Dreams – Fish on Fence” project on June 23rd. All students will be painting a fish to place on our fence. We will be retiring the current fish and re-placing them with new fish to brighten up the fence on Cumberland Street.

The Steam of Dreams Society helps children and adults understand their connection to local watersheds and how to make behavioral changes to protect our streams, rivers, lakes, and the ocean.

Parent volunteers are needed on June 24th to help remove and place our new fish. If you are able to volunteer, please contact Ms. Phelan – sphelan@sd40.bc.ca.

Thank you to our PAC for supporting this wonderful project!

Please let us know if you need additional support with school supplies, lunches, participation in field trips and other activities and events throughout the year. Our whole school community is eager to help and make sure all students have a positive experience while at Howay.
